The NFL Draft is a yearly occurrence and is one of the most talked about football events because of the uncertainty of picks teams make, uncertain trades and wanting to see who your team drafts. The draft occured from Thursday April 25th-Saturday April 27th.
In this article I will be going over the biggest first round draft picks of this year. The first quite shocking pick happened Number 1 overall from the Cleveland Browns, they selected a leader, with maturity that is very debatable, Baker Mayfield. He was the 4th ranked QB in the draft and it was a surprise that he went ahead of more NFL ready QB’s like Sam Darnold.
The Browns chose Mayfield first which left the number 1 ranked player left on the board Saquon Barkley a RB from Penn State. He was projected to go first overall because of his pure talent and he is projected to be an every down starting running back when he enters the NFL. The team that picked him were the Giants who were 26th in rushing last year and need a all down back badly and they got their answer in Barkley.
3rd overall the Jets selected the most NFL ready QB in Sam Darnold according to analyst. Sam Darnold is a much needed addition to a Jet’s Franchise that has struggled at QB for years.
7th overall the Buffalo Bills selected Wyoming QB Josh Allen. This is a good player to develop for the Bills and with the veteran A.J McCarron at QB for them they can work on his play and his accuracy when throwing the football.
10th overall the Arizona Cardinals selected Josh Rosen, a much needed addition considering the injury history of starter Sam Bradford. Rosen was ranked 2nd at QB and it was surprising he fell all the way to 10th overall.
The Miami Dolphins chose Minkah Fitzpatrick a safety out of Alabama with the 11th overall pick, Fitzpatrick was ranked a top 5 pick but fell to 11th because of the amount of good QB’s in the draft. This addition will help the Dolphin’s defense a lot because he is projected to be a starter right away.
32nd overall the Philadelphia Eagles traded with the Ravens and the Ravens selected Lamar Jackson, QB out of Louisville. This is expected to be the Raven’s QB of the future because Joe Flacco’s play has started to decline.
