The boy’s basketball season is soon coming to a close. It has been a rollercoaster of a season with eight wins and eight losses, but the team is looking to redeem themselves in their last five games of the season.

“It has been a season of ups and downs to this point,” says boys basketball head coach Jeremy Rickertsen.

Their win at Iowa City High (68-44) on Tuesday ended a four-game losing streak, putting them back on the road to success. The team looks to continue with the wins throughout the rest of the season, including the home game against Xavier tonight.

“By working every day to get better we hope that we can keep some momentum going into our last few games and into the post-season,” Rickertsen explains.

The last time the team played at home was with Linn-Mar last Friday. Linn-Mar started off strong, and by the end of the first quarter, they were up by almost fifteen, leaving the Hawks in the dust.

It wasn’t until the end of the third quarter when Prairie started to make a comeback. The Hawks trailed by no more than five throughout the fourth quarter. The crowd was never louder, but during the last minute of the game, Prairie was unable to pull ahead. Prairie lost 59-63.

Despite the rough season, Rickertsen has been happy to see leadership from his players both on and off the court. With only a few games left in the regular season, the team hopes to play well and continue their journey in the postseason.

“We just have to focus on one game at a time and focus on the process,” states Rickertsen.

Make sure to come and support all your Prairie Hawks Team tonight at home!

  1. Grace,
You have a nice balance between the contribution from your interview with the coach and the surrounding details of the season. Overall, strong organization of content. You add descriptive language in the section wherein you describe the crowd and that is a moment that brings your readers into your story. Keep up the good work.
