The Prairie High School Girls varsity team is currently 8-4 with their most recent win against Waterloo East. With the team being ranked 10th, they have some goals to end the season with.
I asked some of the girls on the team about upcoming events, and each other as a team;
Makenna Moenk is a guard on the team and speaks for the team as a whole, “Were hoping to finish out the rest of the regular season strong, with the 8 games remaining we hope to get a couple more wins before regionals starts.”
Regionals will take place at the end of the season, with getting two wins at these games the girls team will move onto state for the first time in 5 years. “It would be an honor to go with the fun group of girls we have and have all the hard work pay off.”
Part way into the season the girls have recruited a few of the boys students to come and scrimmage against the game at practices. Sarah Schmitt a guard quotes, “It’s a lot of fun and it is a way to improve our skills with a different set of people pushing us everyday.” This is a fun new way of competing against competition to compare the girls for games.
Overall the team as a whole is very connected and is motivated to reach their goals. I asked Rachael Kilpatrick how she feels towards her teammates and the team as a whole, “I really like how we all mesh together as a team and how we all play well together wether we are winning or losing the game.”
The team hopes to see more people at the upcoming games. One way they are planning to do this is to throw out T-shirts during the starters announcement.
Come out to high school next Tuesday to support the girls basketball team as they compete against Mt. Pleasant. Go Hawks!
