On October 14, 2007, we will all rejoice on the ten year anniversary of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. The family that catapulted contouring, family love, and most importantly: North West. But with all this fame, the perplexing question to most is,”Why are the Kardashians even famous?” Followed by the oh-so untrue statement,”They don’t even do anything.”
“Why are they famous?” The most quizzical of questions, coming with the most complicated of answers. The first real sight of the star-studded, Kardashian name, was with the OJ Simpson trial. Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, and Rob’s father, Robert Kardashian, was the defense attorney during the famous Simpson murder trial, launching the name “Kardashian” on TV. Although this isn’t what jump-started their fame, it got the name out into the public.
Mother, Kris Jenner, and Robert Kardashian filed for divorce, and in 1991, Kris married the former Olympic athlete, Bruce Jenner, now known as Caitlyn. They had two children together, Kendall and Kylie. Marrying Bruce gave the family even more wealth, and a little more fame.
But even without all the fame, Kim Kardashian, the star amongst them all, knew what she was destined for. In a home video from 1994, she looks into the camera and says,”Does everyone get a tape of this? I hope you do, so you can see me when I’m famous and remember me as a beautiful little girl!” Clearly, she had her priorities straight.
Perhaps the most comical point to look at Kim’s life is in 2003 when she paired up with socialite and TV star, Paris Hilton. Kim at a point in time was actually Paris’ assistant and appeared in trivial moments during Hilton’s TV show, “The Simple Life.”
Fast forward three years later, the three legendary sisters opened up their store,”Dash.” Kourtney, Khloe, and Kim raised their profiles in the fashion world and became more well known in the Calabasas area. Throughout their work on the store, mother Kris was working hard to get her family on television. She pitched the idea of Keeping Up With The Kardashians to Ryan Seacrest, who accepted. In 2007, the Kardashian TV life was born.
The same year though, Kim was getting slightly scandalous behind the scenes, which launched her full frontal to stardom. Kim also appeared on Dancing With The Stars, but was eliminated about a month in.
In season three of KUWTK, Kris started to get worried about the show growing stale. Until… Kourtney Kardashian announced she was pregnant! Kris revealed she thinks that the pregnancy saved the show, and the Dash business began to rise.
During all of this, the Kardashian empire has only grown stronger and bigger. With fans all around the world, watching their every move, it’s impressive to know that the famous family can still keep their ground, while we keep up with them.
And even though it’s hard for some to believe, the Kardashian’s are worth something. And I don’t mean their net worths. The family has shown diversity, strength, and positivity to the world. At the time of when skinny, thin bodies were seen as the only beautiful body type, Khloe and Kim, in particular, showed that curves can be utterly beautiful, and it’s okay to love your body for the way it is. They also showed acceptance and support to people who weren’t on the same social or economic status level as them. On the show, you see the family in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, learning about families impacted, who lost everything. You also see them taking Kendall and Kylie to a homeless shelter, and becoming friends with some of the young girls living in it. They used their fame in ways like this for the greater good. Helping those in need, and taking time out of their busy schedules to learn more about others.
And in October of last year, one of the most traumatic experiences occurred to Kim. While in Paris, Kim was held at gunpoint and had over €9 million worth of jewelry stolen. She was locked in the bathroom and tied up. This event has caused major problems to her life, as it would to anyone else’s. She’s suffered numerous panic attacks since then, and has had heightened anxiety. Fans and followers believe she may have PTSD, which would be completely reasonable given the circumstances. By shining a light on her anxiety, she shows to people all over that mental illnesses such as anxiety are completely normal.
It’s important to note all the amazing things the Kardashians have done before bashing them into oblivion for no reason. Although everyone makes mistakes, the family has done a lot for their careers and to help others throughout their history.
Now here’s a really confusing, but could be helpful if you look at it long enough, family tree.
