HIgh school athletes are at their best physical dominance ever. Over many years the progression of high school athletes have skyrocketed. The average high school athlete is much more athletic than the ones even 10 years back.This isn’t just a coincidence or just a small trend but this is actually tactical.
It starts with the program the athletes are put in at their school. They have changed the way of training their athletes and it has helped the athletes substantially. In an interview that i had with John Lukasko (current high school fitness teacher) What he thought about athletes health today and he said “High school Athletes today are more prepared and have better resources and today’s athletes are bigger faster and stronger due to weight programs and therapists to help these athletes”
I then asked what his daily routine was and why if they should change some of their habits to become similar to his? He responded by saying “If you take care of your body the right way at a young age that will benefit you as you get older”
That indeed is correct if you look at many athletes that take care of their bodies at a professional level they wind up having a long career and that is no accident. Athletes should find joy in taking care of their bodies because this helps them in the long run and when they are older all the good work they put in now will benefit them tremendously oppose to someone who doesn’t do these things.
In fact normal high school students that do not engage in physical activity the rate fell from 42.7% to 39.3% which is not the direction we want this to be headed in.
I think there is a place to start for athletes to improve in their physical maturity and this was his input on the question “With all the necessary equipment athletes have to their exposure it is a given that they are bigger than the athletes of yesterday.”
I totally agreed with his response because it makes perfect sense and is the right way of thinking about it. I then followed up the question with Who could make these high school athletes better and why? He responded “High school coaches and fitness trainers are good because they stay on top of the modern ways to get fit with all the new equipment it helps these athletes tremendously.”
That brings me to my last point on that these athletes are not just getting bigger, faster and stronger on their own but it is because the ones before them are guiding them in the right direction and making them max out to their fullest capabilities.
