The Prairie Hawks wrestling team kicked off the wrestling tournament season with a 5th place finish in the Independence Invitational last weekend. With a team score of 216, the Hawks came in behind Solon, who placed 4th with 227 points, and in front of Crestwood, who placed 6th with 207.
Prairie’s lone champion was Preston LaGrange 17′, who won his bracket at 182 lbs, and is 7-0 on the season.
In an interview with the Gazette, Prairie head coach Kane Thompson talked about the 182 pounder.
“He doesn’t say a lot,” Prairie Coach Kane Thompson said. “He’s a leader by example. He does things right. He’s a good all-around athlete.
The top 10 teams from the Independence Invitational are listed below, out of a total of 25.
