The Prairie football team is still exceeding everybody’s expectations. Since their week 1 loss to Washington, they have won 7 games in a row, and are ranked 3rd in the state according to the Des Moines Register.
They’ve overcome obstacle after obstacle, and test after test. Beating multiple ranked teams, they climbed the ladder to put themselves in the conversation with elite giants.
They beat Clinton and Iowa City West, despite being under dogs in both. They avoided the threat of an upset by Linn Mar, an underrated team, by blowing them out of the water.
Many preseason predictions put them in 4th or 5th place in the District. They will be competing for the District Championship Friday night. The only team left standing in their way is Kennedy, who finished 2nd in the state last year.
The 2 teams will face off at Kingston Stadium Friday, and the Hawks are looking to ensure that their first two playoff games are at home. If they continue the win streak into the playoffs, beating Kennedy and winning those 2 home games, they will make an appearance at the UNI dome in the semi finals, and possibly the state championship.
They have a long playoff road ahead of them, but they’ve continued to beat the odds throughout the season, and are set to make a magical run, starting with a battle against the Cougars.
