Its official, the 2016 Prairie Hawks have punched their ticket in playoffs. The hawks handled their business the last two weeks beating Linn-mar Lions (2-7) and Burlington Greyhounds (3-5). Hawks won by a margin of 35 points in both of the games.

This Friday the Prairie Hawks take on Cedar Rapids Kennedy (5-4) for the undisputed district championship. This is the first time in 20 years that the Hawks have played for the championship.

Not only does the game dictate the champion of district 8 but it’s a must win for Kennedy to keep their playoff hopes alive. Due to the playoff system introduced this year, only two teams in a district makes the playoffs.

This new system leaves a possibility for good teams to be left out of the playoffs. In district 8 a very talented Iowa City West must win at Ottumwa and have Cedar Rapids Kennedy lose to clinch a playoff spot.
