The Prairie boys golf team fell short of state, despite an impressive season. They were ranked in the top 20 at one point, but had to finish in the top 3 in districts to compete in the state tournament. They finished in 5th, just six strokes short of a trip to Des Moines despite posting the best scores in Prairie history throughout the season.
Matt Lorenz ‘17 has been a big part in the rise of Prairie’s golf team, and when asked how he felt about the results of the season, he said “I’m pretty disappointed that we didn’t make it to state but we had a great season and the Prairie golf program is moving in the right direction.”
The team embraced a fun and relaxed mentality throughout the year, shown by their Twitter page, @Phawkgolf, who often posted quotes and short videos of the popular golf comedy Happy Gilmore. The team also released a statement through their twitter page after the district results were announced.
“The varsity guys fell just short of a state berth today with a 324 score. They had such a great season, posting some of the best scores that have been posted in Prairie golf history. Not only are they a group of good golfers they are a group of some of the best individuals that walk the halls of Prairie High School. It was a great season for all levels of Prairie Golf, we thank you for all of the support!”
