The high school playoffs should be very exciting this year. There are a lot of returning schools such as Dowling, Valley, and Waukee. There is a new up and coming team too, Cedar Rapids Prairie. People waved Prairie off at the beginning of the year, and didn’t see the hawks as having potential to go far. Now they can see that they are a team that has weapons and very good athletes that are very well coached.
In the West bracket the teams most likely playing will be
Lewis Central (7-1) at Waukee (7-2)
Southeast Polk (5-4) at West Des Moines Dowling (8-1)
Ankeny Centennial (8-1) at Ankeny (6-3)
Johnston (5-4) at West Des Moines Valley (9-0)
Then in the East bracket the teams most likely playing will be
Iowa City High (7-2) at Cedar Rapids Washington (8-1)
Western Dubuque (7-2) at Cedar Rapids Prairie (8-1)
Iowa City West (7-2) at North Scott (5-4)
Cedar Falls (6-3) at Bettendorf (7-2)
I predict that the second round in the West bracket will be, Waukee against Dowling and Ankeny Centennial against Valley.
In the East bracket I predict the teams in the second round will be Washington against Prairie and Iowa City West against Bettendorf.
After that the third round for the West bracket will be Dowling against Valley. For the East bracket, I think Prairie will get its revenge and beat Washington, and they will play Iowa City West.
The Championship will be Valley for the West, and Prairie for the East. Prairie will go on to win it all giving the East it’s first Championship team since 2009.
