Throughout the last couple of games, the Anaheim Ducks have played phenomenally, winning 8 of their last 9 games. It was a bit surprising to see them go into overtime with a team so much worse than them. Team Captain, Ryan Getzlaf, remarked that while they won, it was an “ugly game for the rest of the team.”
Throught the first period of the game, both Anaheim and Winnipeg put up a point, making it 1-1 going into the second. No one scored in the second, though Getzlaf got really close a multitude of times. Then came the third period when Winnipeg made the first power play goal scored on the Ducks in almost fifteen games. It was 2-1 with about 5 minutes left when Jamie McGinn put a goal into propel the game into overtime.
Overtime went by and the it was missed shot after missed shot, then finally with 58.7 seconds left, Anaheim power forward Jakob Silfverberg took a pass from Ryan Kesler and made a perfect shot into the top left corner of the net, giving Anaheim the win. This win had fans going crazy, and gave the Ducks a win to start off their 5 games on the road. This week, they face off against the Montreal Canadians to clinch a playoff spot.
