The Prairie Hawks traveled to Des Moines early this week to wrestle at possibly the biggest high school sports event in Iowa, the state wrestling tournament. The event kicked off Wednesday with the Duals Tournament.

The Hawks started the day facing off against Johnston, who collectively has had a great year. Prairie lost a close one 34-25, moving them to the consolation bracket right off the bat. Soon after they ran into the Clinton River kings, who they beat 46-36, despite wrestling a string of Junior Varsity kids to keep the individual qualifiers fresh for the days ahead. This is an indicator on the deep talent on this team.
After a couple hour break, the Hawks finished the day with a tough loss to Waverly Shell Rock by one point, 37-36. This handed them a 6th place finish, and a hope that the individuals will be able to turn the Hawks around Thursday through Saturday.
