“Friends come and go but banners hang forever”- Kobe Bryant. This quote embodies what Kobe Bryant stands for and that is a champion. Many people look at Kobe as a selfish basketball player who only cares about himself. But the truth about Kobe is that he is a hard worker who will do anything to win and will make sure his teammates play to the best of their abilities.

Kobe Bean Bryant was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 23rd, 1978. Kobe is the son of Joe Bryant who also spent time in the NBA. Kobe spent all of his pre adult life around basketball and loved the sport. When Kobe graduated high school he decided to go straight to the NBA draft.

Kobe started his NBA career with the Charlotte Hornets as the 13th pick in the 1996 draft. He found his stay in Charlotte short lived as he was a part of the Hornets for 15 days before he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers where he would soon become a star.

Bryant, who was a rookie at a time was selected to the 1997 All-Star game in Cleveland. Kobe kicked off his all-star game career with a record 31 points in the rising star challenge  which included other stars such as Ray Allen, Allen Iverson, and Derek Fisher. The next day Kobe won the dunk contest and then didn’t record a stat in the All-Star game.

Kobe has played his entire career with the Lakers and has found himself with 5 NBA championships, 18 all star game selections, 2 NBA scoring titles, 12 all defensive team selections, he as well is the 3rd on the all time NBA scoring list for the regular season as well as the postseason scoring list. During his career he has been one of the most dynamic scorers in the NBA and holds the record for 2nd most points in a game with a whooping 81 in a game.
When Kobe was asked about comparing himself to one of the all time greats MIchael Jordan he said “I don’t want to be the next Michael Jordan, I only want to be Kobe Bryant.” Kobe went from a young kid who had a lot of talent to one of the greatest of all time. He said he didn’t want to be the next Michael Jordan but he became Kobe Bryant. Kids around the world grow up watching Kobe and wanting to be him, wanting to play like him. Kobe is now on the same level as Michael Jordan not as only one of the greatest players of all time but as well one of the greatest inspirers of all time.
