Some skies may throw rain, hail, or even snow; but skies in India are throwing poop at poor pedestrians. Now this fecal matter isn’t just forming in the clouds, it leaks from airplanes and forms into ice while falling through the atmosphere. This isn’t a common occurrence but it does happen enough to earn the nickname ‘blue ice’ due to the chemicals they use on the airplanes to reduce odor and break it down more.
The Times of India reports that Rajrani Gaud from Madhya Pradesh suffered a severe shoulder injury when she was hit by a football-sized chunk of ice last month. Her injuries could have been much worse, according to eyewitnesses. They say she only avoided being killed because the icy ball crashed into the roof of a house before hitting her.
As of now, it’s known as just falling ice. Suspicions are rising that this wasn’t ice but instead blue ice (which is sort of difficult to prove not only if it is blue ice, but which airline it came from.)
“I was only 25 feet away from the spot where the monster came crashing down. Children and villagers witnessed the fall and then heard screams. We ran towards Rajrani’s house and referred her to hospital,” Deepak Jain, a government school teacher in Aamkhoh village, stated. “The ice ball hit the roof first. Otherwise, it would have smashed her skull,” he said.
If it was blue ice, the incident will be termed an aircraft accident and the victim will be entitled to compensation under the Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents and Incidents) Rules, 2012, said an expert.
