The Gazette released their Iowa High School basketball predictions last week, where they predicted Prairie to come out on top of the Mississippi Division in the Mississippi Valley Conference. As for the other half of the conference, the Iowa City West Trojans are predicted to win the Valley division. The Trojans are a very successful program, and the Hawks have been on the rise ever since the hiring of head coach Jeremy Rickertsen. Both hope to compete at state this year.
Prairie lost two important big men last year in JoJo Simpson and Bryce Meeker, who both went on to play football in college. They hope to fill this void with athletic players like Maxwell Smith-Drahos, Jalen Rima, Cal Clark, and Ryan Oxley who together have the potential to be very explosive this year.
It’s obvious the expectations are high this year for the Hawks, and there is a good chance they will live up to the Gazette’s predictions, and then some.
